I am having a lot of trouble getting organized and finding the correct support materials. I am an old math / science / programming teacher and the chaos is had to embrace. Any ideas to help me out? Sharon

First sorry to miss you all last Sunday - as a penance I'm going to get up at 1.30am tonight to join whoever manages the 8.30 EST mini-meet.

But the great news is I did take part on Sunday - albeit asynchronously. Like the student who sends their tape recorder to the lecture, there is always the danger that I may never appear and take part in real time again, but I'm missing you all already. This is why the webcast/podcast model is a valid, valuable approach. As participants I think we understand the significance of the social value of using this technology. The social aspect therefore is equally about the need/desire to give as well as take (or listen).

There is going to be a small group meeting on Wednesday Nov. 1st at 8:30pm EST for WebCast Academy Interns. Global times are listed here.

Okay, that was easy... announcing the meeting was simple... but where do will we actually "meet"??? I've checked the Book of Webcasting for some hints about these small group meetings and there wasn't a listing so I think we're on our own here and you definitely don't want me leading!! I participated in my first Skypecast on Sunday!...or was that a conference???...sheesh, so many terms to learn...

Anyway, I'm just going to jump in and say let's 'meet' in a webhuddle meeting spot. Here are the directions:

1. At 8:30pm EST (Wed.Nov.1st) go to: http://www.webhuddle.com/

2. Click on "Join Meeting" at the top of the page.

3. Complete the form on the "Join" page by using my email address - [email protected] and the password 'smallgroup' (without the quotes).

In the WebHuddle, I will initiate VOIP (Audio) and recording the session. We will start off by using the chat (since I'm unsure the audio will work) and do demonstrations if need be (see topic #2 below) - I'm hoping someone knowledgeable will drop by and 'offer' to create some skype-thingy that we can join (I believe we will have better audio but I'm really unsure)....otherwise, I will try my best to become a 'skyper' on the spot.

I missed the sunday meeting because I was out of town for a family function and could not possibly log in to join the group. Now I am scrambling to catch up. Have downloaded the mp3 file and will listen to what transpired and catch up on the conversations in print here, there and everywhere. Information seems scattered all over the place. I'm trying to find time to focus enough to catch the gist of the organization that I fear is not really here given the infinite expansion possibilities of the communication tools we are using. :-)

I don't give up easily but I stubbornly attempt to accomplish tasks without fully comprehending the instructions. So when I tried to get the vac working I ran into a problem. I had Skype on, Audacity up, and vac open. I chose cable 1 in Audacity and compared all the settings. I took a phone call, activated the vac and then pressed record in Adacity. It appeared to be recording but the resulting audio file seemed more like a transmission from another planet. I plan to re-read the directions and try again, but if anyone has already overcome this obsticle, please share your secrets with me and anyone else who may be wondering too.

I was thinking that we could make a Wiki where we share our knowledge and gather our learningprocess at one place. I call it Webcastclass. I made my own page with a mind map and some thoughts. Since there is a RSS you can follow the process as other put their pages up... Then everyone can use their own favorite-program to make their mindmap...

Brad Hicks and Paul Reid will be webcasting for the Educational Computing Association of Western Australia's (ECAWA) state conference on Monday the 6th of November. The topic for the webcast will be 'What is the current state of ICT's in education and what can we predict for the future?' The webcast will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. West Australian time (GMT + 8).

We would like to have a number of overseas participants join us for this webcast. We believe that international participants will add to the scope of the discussion and also demonstrate the power of webcasting as a forum for collaborative discussion. If you are able to join us for this discussion I would appreciate confirmation of your participation by e-mailing Brad at [email protected]

Has anyone tried a multiple mic and headphone setup? Will be webcasting from a conference next week and may have more than two presenters at the computer that will be streaming. In the past I have manged 2 presenters with a shared USB mic and an RCA splitter for the headphones. So if anyone has any suggestions I'd be interested to hear. And just to make it more interesting - I'll be working on a Mac :-) (but would be interested to hear PC solutions too).

I’m listening to the recording of the meeting and taking notes as I go through of the sudden outbursts I would normally share with people in a meeting. Luckily you only get subjected to the sudden bursts of typing, nothing more.

Certification

I like the idea but we would need to make sure that if people are going to use the certification as part of their professional development there needs to be a way to demonstrate the value of the certificate contents and what it took to earn them. A thought is to create a screencast presentation (5 minutes, no more) of the content of the certification that can be used to explain to anyone what the cert. means and what it took to get it. We could work on that as a group and make it part of the final class project.

Is anyone available on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 -7:30 or 8:30-10:00 EST to talk about our assignments?

Oh dear. I made my recording in Audacity while we had our webcast session, strongly encouraged by Jeff. I managed to clean out some stuttering and uhms. Then I struggled for quite a while to locate the lame file, which has to be done from inside Audacity when you wish to convert from the .aup format to mp3. I knew this would be tricky as I've had this silly problem before. People have tried patiently to walk me through this, but with no succes - until now! I don't know why it was not unzipped properly in the Aucatity program folder as I wanted it to, and my Search skills are poor with the Windows PC for some reason (being a mac user by origin) At last I thought of opening the EasyZip folder - and there inside ! yes yes yes! I found the much desired Lame folder! No problem :-)

Dennis writing. I was/am a member of 2.1 but I was away for well over 4 weeks.  Can I carry on trying to stream - so far unsuccessful - so that I can complete the training course?

Any suggestions/recommendations on software for recording screencasts for playback by users through a web site? I'm not looking for real time playback, but rather for training of adult ed students on technical processes.

Dear Webcast Academy Interns and Registrants,

  Thanks to the Class of 1.3 for a great first week of the session. For those who are interested in becoming interns, but have not yet registered or become active, it's still not too late - this is a last call to join the class of 1.x.  If you would like to be considered part of The Webcast Academy Class of 1.x, you need to post an audio introduction by Nov. 1, 11:59pmGMT.  In order to receive the necessary posting privileges, you  will need to have posted a short note on this forum thread expressing your interest. 
    Everyone is welcome to participate in the community and learn whatever they can from the Webcast Academy site, but only 1.x interns will be able to stream from the Webcast Academy Sandbox Channels and be eligible to receive webcasting certification during the upcoming 1st Academy Certification Council .  For  a discussion about what that means and how to begin posting to your Webcaster Portfolio, please tune in to Webcast Academy Meeting 1.3.2 or listen to the recording. The Class of 2.x is scheduled to begin early in 2007, but the certification council will not meet again for at least 6 months.
At the bottom of this note is a list of those who have applied to be part of the Class of 1.x and those who have posted audio introductions.  If you've posted an audio introduction, but it is not noted, please send a quick email with a link to the mp3 file to [email protected]
Members of the Classes of 1.1 and 1.2, if you have not posted your introductions, please do so if you'd like to receive certification at the upcoming council.

Since when we had our webcast i run into Open Learn from Open University...

And their tool Compendium is an easy way to do Mindmaps. They also save in XML and it is programmed in Java so it is not plattformdependent..
