Foreign Resident Population Approaches 1.7 Million, Up 8.4 Percent
The number of foreign nationals residing in South Korea reached approximately 1.69 million as of May 2025, according to government data released in March 2026. The figure represents an 8.4 percent increase from the previous year and covers foreigners aged 15 and older who have lived in the country for more than 91 days.
Cherry Blossom Season: Busan Blooms, Jinhae Festival Underway
Cherry blossoms arrived ahead of schedule in southern South Korea this year, with blooms reported in Busan and Jeju around March 25. The Jinhae Gunhangje Festival, one of the country's largest cherry blossom events, opened on March 27 and runs through approximately April 5. For those in the Busan area, peak bloom is happening now.
